Dailies vs Zoom AI CompanionThe Zoom AI Companion alternative for vertical shorts from your Meet, Teams and Zoom calls
Zoom AI Companion and Dailies both work on the calls you already hold. Zoom’s assistant lives inside Zoom: it summarises the meeting and, when the meeting is recorded to Zoom’s cloud, highlights its most important parts. Dailies is a Chrome extension: it records the calls you hold in Chrome, on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom’s web client, and delivers captioned vertical shorts a few minutes later. One tells you what the meeting said. The other gives you something to post.

What Zoom AI Companion does
Zoom AI Companion is the AI built into Zoom. In a Zoom meeting, it writes a meeting summary, sent by email and posted to the meeting chat. On Zoom cloud recordings, Smart Recording adds chapters, next steps and highlights of the most important parts, which you can export to a new clip to view, edit and share. Its My Notes feature, in the Zoom Workplace app, also takes notes in Microsoft Teams, Google Meet and in-person meetings without a bot, by listening to your microphone and your computer’s sound; it keeps the notes and the transcript, and deletes the audio. A separate option sends AI Companion into Google Meet and Teams meetings as a participant. Zoom lists French among the languages of My Notes. A word on names: since June 2026, Zoom presents these features as built into Zoom Workplace, with ZoomMate as its AI teammate on top; its support articles still say AI Companion, and so does this page.
Where Dailies and Zoom AI Companion differ
Zoom’s video stays on Zoom, Dailies records three platforms
Zoom’s highlights need a Zoom cloud recording and its transcript, so they exist for Zoom meetings only. On Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, My Notes produces notes and a transcript, and keeps no recording. Dailies records the call tab, your microphone and your webcam in Chrome, on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom’s web client alike, and cuts its shorts from all three.
A highlight of a recording, or a short made for a phone
Smart Recording highlights the most important parts of a recorded Zoom meeting and lets you export them to a clip you can view, edit and share. The article we read mentions no vertical 9:16 format and no burned-in captions. A Dailies short is made for a feed: vertical, reframed on whoever speaks, with animated captions burned in, a line above it, and the silences, filler words and false starts cut out.
How each one gets into the call
Inside Zoom, AI Companion is part of the meeting. Outside Zoom, My Notes listens from your computer, without a bot, and reminds you to follow the laws that apply, which may include giving notice; a separate option joins Meet and Teams calls as a participant and posts a chat message three minutes in to say it is there. Dailies is a Chrome extension: it records from your browser, with no bot in the call.
What Zoom AI Companion does that Dailies does not
Meeting summaries, key takeaways, action items and next steps, in over 30 languages for the summaries. Notes on meetings held in person. Chapters on a recording. Dailies writes no meeting notes, no summary and no action items: it makes shorts, and only from the calls it recorded.
Questions people ask
Can Zoom AI Companion make clips of a meeting?
Yes, of a Zoom meeting recorded to Zoom’s cloud. Smart Recording highlights the most important parts of the recording, and you can export those highlights to a new clip to view, edit and share. It needs the cloud recording and its transcript. The article we read mentions no vertical format and no burned-in captions.
Does Zoom AI Companion work on Google Meet and Microsoft Teams?
For notes, yes. My Notes, in the Zoom Workplace app, takes notes on Teams, Google Meet and in-person meetings without a bot, and a separate option joins Meet and Teams meetings as a participant. My Notes keeps notes and a transcript, not the audio. Its highlight clips come from Zoom cloud recordings only.
Does Dailies work on Zoom calls?
Yes, when you hold the call in Chrome, in Zoom’s web client. Dailies records the call tab, your microphone and your webcam, as it does on Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, then cuts up to eight captioned vertical shorts from the call’s best passages.
Does Dailies replace Zoom AI Companion?
Not for notes. Dailies writes no summary and no action items: it makes shorts. A written recap of your Zoom meetings and content to post are two different jobs, even on the same call.
Your next call already holds your next shorts.
Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
