Dailies

Dailies vs HedyThe Hedy alternative when you want your calls turned into video, not coaching and notes

Hedy and Dailies sit at two different moments of a call. Hedy works during it: an app on your device listens to the conversation and suggests what to say or ask next, then gives you a summary and action items. Dailies works after it: a Chrome extension records the call tab, your microphone and your webcam, and a few minutes after you hang up it delivers up to eight captioned vertical shorts. Neither sends a bot into the call. Hedy helps you hold the conversation. Dailies helps you publish what you said in it.

What Hedy does

Hedy presents itself as a real-time meeting coach. It runs as an app on your own device, on Mac, Windows, iPhone, Apple Watch and Android, and no bot joins the call. On a computer it captures the system audio, so it hears a meeting held on Zoom, Teams, Google Meet or any other meeting app; on a phone it uses the device’s microphone, and Hedy says it cannot reach the audio of other apps there. Speech recognition runs on the device, and Hedy states that the audio stays on it and is never part of a session you share. During the conversation it suggests what to say; afterwards it gives summaries, action items, highlights, a transcript and session notes, which you can export. It supports more than 30 languages, French included, and its website exists in French. Hedy’s own guidance asks users to inform meeting participants and to ensure consent for recording. No video recording is mentioned on the pages we read.

Where Dailies and Hedy differ

During the call, or after it

Hedy’s work happens live: it listens and suggests what to say or ask while the other person is still talking. During the call, Dailies only records. Its work starts when you hang up: it picks the best passages itself, removes silences, filler words and false starts, reframes on whoever speaks and burns in animated captions.

Audio that stays on your device, video that becomes shorts

Hedy states that the audio stays on your device and is never part of a session you share, and its highlights are text. We found no video recording on the Hedy pages we read. Dailies records the picture, the call tab and your webcam on a track of its own, because a short is cut from footage: each one shows whoever speaks, vertical and captioned.

Where each one runs

Hedy runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone, Apple Watch and Android. On a computer it hears any meeting app through the system audio; on a phone it listens through the device’s microphone. Dailies runs in one place: Chrome, on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom’s web client. If your conversations happen away from the browser, Hedy goes there and Dailies does not.

How your guests are told

Neither tool puts a bot in the call. Hedy’s guidance tells its users to inform meeting participants about Hedy and to ensure consent for recording. Dailies records from your own browser, and telling your guests is up to you.

Questions people ask

Does Hedy record the video of a meeting?

No video recording is mentioned on the Hedy pages we read. Hedy captures audio, the system audio on a computer or the microphone on a phone, runs speech recognition on the device, and states that the audio stays there. What it produces is text: suggestions, summaries, action items, a transcript.

Can Hedy make clips or shorts from a call?

Not from what its site describes. Hedy’s highlights are text, and it describes no video recording, so there is no footage to cut. Dailies records the call in Chrome, picture included, and delivers up to eight captioned vertical shorts a few minutes after it ends.

Does Dailies replace Hedy?

No. Dailies suggests nothing during a call and writes no meeting notes, summaries or action items. It records the call and makes shorts from it. Being coached during the conversation and having content to post afterwards are two different jobs.

Does a bot join the call with Hedy or with Dailies?

With neither. Hedy is an app on your device, which captures the system audio on a computer. Dailies is a Chrome extension that records the call tab, your microphone and your webcam.

Does Hedy work in French?

Yes for the conversation: Hedy states that it supports more than 30 languages, French among them, and its website exists in French. We could not confirm from the pages we read whether the app’s own interface is in French. Dailies handles calls in French, in English and in both mixed, and its extension’s interface is in French.

Your next call already holds your next shorts.

Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
