Dailies vs Gemini in Google MeetThe Gemini in Google Meet alternative for turning a Meet call into shorts to post
Gemini’s “Take notes for me” and Dailies can both sit in a Google Meet call, and they leave with different things. Gemini leaves with a Google Doc: a summary, the decisions, the action items, with a recap emailed to the organiser. Dailies leaves with video: it records the call in Chrome and delivers captioned vertical shorts cut from its best passages. If you want the minutes of a Meet call, Gemini is built into the place where the call happens. If you want something to post, you need the picture, and that is what Dailies keeps.

What Gemini in Google Meet does
Gemini in Google Meet is the AI note-taking built into Meet, under the name “Take notes for me”. It works on meetings held in Google Meet and, since August 2026, on in-person meetings started from Meet’s home screen. It writes a Google Doc with quick notes (a short summary and action items) and full notes (summary, decisions, action items, details), gives latecomers a “summary so far”, emails a recap to the organiser and saves the notes in the organiser’s Google Drive. Meet tells all participants that notes are being taken and shows a pencil icon on every screen; an admin setting, off by default, can require them to agree first. The feature needs an eligible Google Workspace edition or Google AI plan. It lists eight languages, French among them, and supports one at a time. It produces notes, not a recording: recording is a separate Meet feature, which captures the active speaker and anything presented and saves the video to the organiser’s Drive.
Where Dailies and Gemini in Google Meet differ
A document on one side, video on the other
“Take notes for me” produces a Google Doc. Recording is a separate Meet feature, and on the pages we read we found no clip or highlight feature attached to it. Dailies records the call tab, your microphone and your webcam, the webcam on a track of its own, then picks up to eight passages and delivers each as a vertical short, reframed on whoever speaks and captioned.
One platform, or the three you get invited to
Gemini’s note-taking is part of Google Meet: it works on meetings held there, or in person from Meet’s home screen. A call on Microsoft Teams or Zoom is outside its scope. Dailies records in Chrome, so the same extension covers Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom’s web client, whichever your client’s invitation uses.
One language at a time, or two in the same call
Google’s help page lists eight languages for the feature, French included, and states that it supports one language at a time. Dailies handles calls in French, in English and in both mixed, for the calls where people move from one to the other.
What Gemini does that Dailies does not
Minutes. A summary, the decisions taken, the action items and a summary so far for whoever joins late, all filed in Google Docs and Drive. It also covers meetings held in person. Dailies writes no meeting notes, no summary and no action items, and records only the calls you hold in Chrome.
Questions people ask
Can Gemini in Google Meet create video clips of a meeting?
We found no such feature on the pages we read. “Take notes for me” produces notes in a Google Doc, not a recording, and Google’s help page on Meet recordings describes no clip or highlight feature. Dailies records the call itself and cuts captioned vertical shorts from it.
Does Gemini take notes on Microsoft Teams or Zoom calls?
No: it is a feature of Google Meet. It works on meetings held in Meet and, since August 2026, on in-person meetings started from Meet’s home screen. Dailies records Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom calls held in Chrome, but it makes shorts, not notes.
Does Gemini in Google Meet work in French?
Yes. French is one of the eight languages Google’s help page lists, and that page exists in French. It also says the feature supports one language at a time. Dailies handles calls in French, in English and in both mixed.
Does Dailies replace Gemini’s meeting notes?
No. Dailies writes no meeting notes, summaries or action items: it records the call and makes shorts from it. The minutes of a meeting and content to post are two different jobs.
Your next call already holds your next shorts.
Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
