Dailies vs Fireflies.aiThe Fireflies.ai alternative when the clip is meant for LinkedIn, not for your team
Fireflies.ai does make clips. Its Soundbites lift the key moments out of a meeting, in audio or in video, by hand or with AI, and you share them by link or download them. They are pieces of the recording, made to pass a moment of the meeting on. Dailies makes another object from the same call: a vertical 9:16 short, reframed on whoever speaks, captioned, with its silences and false starts cut out, ready to post. So the question is less whether you get clips than what you plan to do with them.

What Fireflies.ai does
Fireflies.ai is an AI assistant for meetings. Its notetaker joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls when it is invited through the calendar or set to join automatically, and stays visible in the participant list. A desktop app can record without a bot from your computer’s system audio, a mode that saves no audio or video file, and a Chrome extension records audio only, on Google Meet. Video is recorded only on calls the bot joins, once enabled in the meeting settings. Fireflies.ai transcribes and summarises in more than 100 languages, French included, writes action items and custom notes, searches across meetings, logs calls in a CRM and creates tasks in project tools. Its Soundbites are short audio or video clips of a meeting, cut by hand from the transcript or the timeline, or detected by AI (Magic Soundbites), then shared by link, grouped in playlists or downloaded as MP3 or MP4.
Where Dailies and Fireflies.ai differ
A Soundbite is a moment of the meeting, a short is built for a phone
A Soundbite is a moment of the meeting as it was recorded: audio downloads as MP3, video as MP4. In the Soundbites documentation we read, we found no mention of a vertical format, of captions burned into the picture, of reframing on the speaker or of removing silences and filler words. A Dailies short is rebuilt for a phone: 9:16, full screen on whoever speaks, animated captions in one of fifteen styles, a line above it stating the question it answers, and the silences, filler words and false starts cut out.
Where the picture comes from
Fireflies.ai records video only on calls its bot joins, once video is enabled in the meeting settings. Its Chrome extension records audio only and works on Google Meet, and its bot-free desktop mode saves no audio or video file. Dailies records from a Chrome extension on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom’s web client: the call tab, your microphone, and your webcam on a track of its own. No bot joins the call.
A team’s memory, or an audience
Fireflies.ai works for the people around the meeting: searchable transcripts, summaries, action items, calls logged in the CRM, tasks created in project tools, playlists of Soundbites. Dailies writes none of that. It works for people who were never in the call: it picks up to eight passages, each able to stand alone, and you download them in Full HD for LinkedIn, TikTok, Reels or Shorts.
Where Fireflies.ai goes further
Fireflies.ai transcribes and summarises in more than 100 languages, accepts audio or video files you upload, has a mobile app, and its desktop app also detects calls on WhatsApp, FaceTime, Discord, Aircall and the phone. Dailies handles French, English and the two mixed, and only the calls it records itself in Chrome. It writes no notes and posts nothing for you.
Questions people ask
Can Fireflies.ai make video clips of a meeting?
Yes. Its Soundbites are short clips of a meeting, audio or video, cut by hand from the transcript or the timeline, or detected by AI with Magic Soundbites. They are shared by link or downloaded as MP3 or MP4. A video Soundbite needs a call recorded with video, which Fireflies.ai does only when its bot joins the call.
Can Fireflies.ai Soundbites be posted as vertical shorts?
The Soundbites documentation does not say. We found no mention there of a vertical 9:16 format, of burned-in captions, of reframing on the speaker or of silence removal: a Soundbite downloads as an MP3 or an MP4. Dailies delivers each short already vertical, captioned and trimmed, in Full HD.
Does Fireflies.ai record without a bot?
Partly. Its desktop app can record a meeting without a bot, from your computer’s system audio, and that mode saves no audio or video file. Video is recorded only on calls its bot joins. Dailies records the call tab, your microphone and your webcam from Chrome, with no bot.
Does Fireflies.ai work in French?
Yes. French and Canadian French are among the more than 100 languages it transcribes and summarises. Dailies handles calls in French, in English and in both mixed, and its extension’s interface is in French.
Does Dailies replace Fireflies.ai?
No, not for notes. Dailies writes no meeting notes, no summary and no action items: it makes shorts. A record of the meeting for your team and content for your audience are two needs, and each tool covers one of them.
Your next call already holds your next shorts.
Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
