Dailies

Dailies vs FathomThe Fathom alternative that finds the passages and cuts them into shorts for you

Fathom records the whole call: full video, audio and a transcript, and on Mac it can now do so without a bot. Then it writes: a summary and action items when the meeting ends, and a sync to your CRM. When a passage is worth keeping, you mark it yourself as a highlight in the transcript and share its link. Dailies starts where that stops. It picks the passages itself, up to eight per call, and turns each one into a vertical, captioned short you can post. One is a note-taker with clips to pass around; the other makes content.

What Fathom does

Fathom is an AI note-taker. Its Notetaker joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls and captures full video, audio and a searchable transcript; Slack Huddles are supported too. On Mac, Fathom can capture a meeting without a bot in the call, full video included, with audio-and-transcript and transcript-only options; it states that bot-free capture is Mac-only for now. When the meeting ends it sends a summary and action items, syncs with Salesforce and HubSpot, and Ask Fathom answers questions across all your meetings. It supports transcripts in 38 languages and says it transcribes and summarises natively in seven, French among them. Its clips are called highlights: you add them by hand from the transcript, give each a type, share them by link and gather them in playlists, from one call or several.

Where Dailies and Fathom differ

Who picks the passage

A Fathom highlight starts with you: you hover over the transcript, click the plus sign next to the moment you want and choose its type. That suits someone who goes back through the call and knows which moment they are after. Dailies makes the first pass itself. A few minutes after the call it proposes up to eight passages, each with a line above it stating the question it answers.

A link to a moment, or a file to post

Fathom shares a highlight as a link to the clip, and its playlists gather highlights from one or several calls. In its highlight documentation we found no mention of a download, of a vertical format, of burned-in captions, of reframing or of silence removal. Dailies delivers a file: a 9:16 short in Full HD, reframed on whoever speaks, with animated captions and without the silences, filler words and false starts, to download and post on LinkedIn, TikTok, Reels or Shorts.

Without a bot, but on which computer

Fathom states that its bot-free capture is Mac-only for now; otherwise its Notetaker joins the call. Bot-free, it posts a recording notice in the meeting chat when recording starts. Dailies is a Chrome extension: it records Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom’s web client from the browser, the call tab, your microphone, and your webcam on a track of its own. No bot joins the call.

What stays on Fathom’s side

A summary and action items at the end of every meeting, Salesforce and HubSpot kept in sync, a searchable transcript, questions asked across all your meetings with Ask Fathom, Slack Huddles. Dailies does none of it. It makes shorts from the calls it records in Chrome, and you download each one to post it yourself.

Questions people ask

Can Fathom create clips from a meeting?

Yes. Fathom calls them highlights. You create one by hand from the call’s transcript, by clicking the plus sign that appears next to the text, and you give it a type. You then copy the link to the highlight clip to share it, or gather highlights from one or several calls in a playlist.

Can I download a Fathom highlight as a vertical video?

We found nothing that says so. Fathom’s highlight documentation describes creating a highlight from the transcript and copying its link; it mentions no download, no vertical format, no burned-in captions, no reframing and no silence removal. Dailies delivers each short as a 9:16 file in Full HD, captioned and reframed on whoever speaks.

Does Fathom record without a bot?

Yes, on Mac. Fathom states that on Mac it captures meetings without a bot in the call, full video included, and that bot-free capture is Mac-only for now. Otherwise its Notetaker joins the Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams call. Dailies records from a Chrome extension, with no bot.

Does Fathom work in French?

Yes. Fathom says it transcribes and summarises natively in seven languages, French among them, and supports transcripts in 38 languages. Dailies handles calls in French, in English and in both mixed, and its extension’s interface is in French.

Does Dailies replace Fathom?

No. Dailies writes no notes, no summary and no action items, which is what Fathom is for. Dailies only makes shorts, from the calls it records. Someone who wants both notes and content needs one tool for each.

Your next call already holds your next shorts.

Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
