Dailies vs LoomThe Loom alternative for turning client calls into vertical shorts
Loom and Dailies both record, for different audiences. Loom is a screen and camera recorder for video messages sent to teammates and customers; it also records and recaps meetings through its Loom Notetaker, which joins the call. Dailies records the calls you hold in Chrome on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom and cuts up to eight captioned vertical shorts from their best passages. A Loom video explains something to people you know; a Dailies short is made for a feed.

What Loom does
Loom, part of Atlassian, is a screen and camera recorder. With its Chrome extension, desktop app or mobile app, you record your screen with your face in a bubble and send the video as a message; its AI writes titles, summaries and chapters, and it offers transcripts and captions in more than 50 languages. Loom also records Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams meetings from your calendar: its Loom Notetaker joins the call as a participant, announces in the chat that it is recording, and Loom then provides a recap and a transcript. Editing covers trimming, stitching, text and arrow overlays and editing by transcript; on its Business + AI and Enterprise plans, it removes filler words and silences. The camera bubble can have a blurred background, a preset image or a solid colour. Recording goes up to 4K with the desktop app on some plans, and up to 1080p with the Chrome extension.
Where Dailies and Loom differ
One more participant, or an extension in your browser
Loom records a meeting through the Loom Notetaker: it joins your Zoom, Google Meet or Teams call as a participant and announces its arrival and its intent to record in the chat. Dailies sends nobody into the call. It is a Chrome extension that records the call tab, your microphone and your webcam from your own browser.
A recap of the meeting, or shorts from it
After a meeting, Loom gives you a recap and a transcript. On the pages we read, we found no feature that picks passages or produces vertical captioned shorts: its editing tools trim, stitch and annotate a video. Dailies does that one thing: it picks up to eight passages per call, reframes each on whoever speaks, removes silences, filler words and false starts, and burns in animated captions.
Your camera as a track of its own
Loom’s meeting recording is set at 1080p, and we found no mention of separate tracks per participant on the pages we read. Dailies records your webcam apart from the call’s picture, so a short can show you full screen when you speak, and your guest, cropped on their face from their tile, when they do.
What Loom does that Dailies does not
Screen recordings with your camera in a bubble, video messages shared with a team, meeting recaps and transcripts, AI titles, summaries and chapters, a mobile app. Dailies does none of that: it writes no notes, records no screen walkthrough, and only makes shorts from the calls it recorded.
Questions people ask
Does Loom record Zoom, Google Meet and Teams meetings?
Yes. Loom records meetings from your calendar through its Loom Notetaker, which joins the call as a participant and announces in the chat that it is recording. The recording is set at 1080p, and Loom then provides a recap and a transcript.
Can Loom make vertical shorts for LinkedIn, TikTok or Reels?
We found no such feature on the Loom pages we read. Its editing tools cover trimming, stitching, text and arrow overlays and editing by transcript, and nothing we read selects passages or produces vertical captioned shorts. Dailies delivers up to eight of them per call, reframed on whoever speaks.
Does Loom remove filler words?
Yes, on some plans. Loom’s help centre describes the removal of filler words (hesitations, rambles and repeats) and of silences on its Business + AI and Enterprise plans. Dailies cuts silences, filler words and false starts from every short it makes.
Does Dailies replace Loom?
Not for screen recordings or meeting recaps. Dailies records no screen walkthrough and writes no summary: it makes captioned vertical shorts from the calls you hold in Chrome. If you send video messages to a team and also want content to post, the two do different jobs.
Your next call already holds your next shorts.
Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
