Dailies

Dailies vs Vimeo RecordThe Vimeo Record alternative for posting what you say in calls, with nothing to record on purpose

Vimeo Record and Dailies both record from the browser, and they record very different moments. Vimeo Record serves the video you set out to make: you open Record Studio, choose your screen, your webcam or both, read from its teleprompter if you wish, and share the result by link from your Vimeo account. Dailies serves a moment you did not stage: the call with a client, on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom. It records that call in Chrome and, a few minutes after you hang up, delivers up to eight captioned vertical shorts cut from the best passages.

  • You like to work from a script, with a teleprompter.

What Vimeo Record does

Vimeo Record is Vimeo’s screen and webcam recorder. Its Record Studio runs in the browser, in Safari, Edge or Chrome, and the Vimeo Record Chrome extension opens it in a tab. You record your screen, your webcam or both, with a teleprompter and scripts written by AI, in Landscape (16:9), Square (1:1) or Portrait (9:16). Recordings are shared by private link from your Vimeo account. Around the recorder, Vimeo offers a text-based editor that deletes filler words and cuts silences, which its help centre describes for videos with spoken English audio, automatic closed captions in a list of languages that includes French, and AI translation of subtitles. Vimeo AI can also generate a highlight reel from a text prompt, a feature its help centre reserves for the Enterprise plan.

Where Dailies and Vimeo Record differ

A message you record, or a call you were going to have

Vimeo Record is a recorder you start with something to say: a walkthrough, an update, a video message. Its teleprompter and AI scripts are there to help you say it. The pages we read do not describe recording a call. Dailies exists for exactly that: the calls you hold in Chrome on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom’s web client, recorded from the call tab, your microphone and your webcam, with no bot joining.

A link to share, or shorts to post

A Vimeo recording lives in your Vimeo account and is shared by private link: it is meant for the people you send it to. A Dailies short is made for a feed: vertical 9:16, reframed on whoever speaks, with animated captions burned in and, above it, a line that gives the question it answers. You download it in Full HD and post it yourself on LinkedIn, TikTok, Reels or Shorts.

Who picks the passages, and in which language

Vimeo AI can build a highlight reel from a text prompt, and Vimeo’s help centre reserves it for the Enterprise plan. Its text-based editor deletes filler words and cuts silences; the help article describes it for videos with spoken English audio. Dailies picks up to eight passages per call without a prompt and cuts their silences, filler words and false starts, for calls in French, in English, or in both mixed.

What Vimeo Record does that Dailies does not

Vimeo Record captures your screen, gives you a teleprompter and an AI script, and keeps the result in your Vimeo account, with automatic closed captions and their translation. Dailies does none of that. It does not edit a video you upload, and it only makes shorts from the calls it recorded: there is nothing to script and nothing to recite.

Questions people ask

Can Vimeo Record record a Zoom or Google Meet call?

The pages we read do not describe it. Vimeo presents Record Studio as a recorder of your screen, your webcam or both, with a teleprompter and AI scripts; those pages mention neither recording a call nor a separate track per participant. Dailies is built for that: it records the calls you hold in Chrome on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom.

Can Vimeo make highlights from a video automatically?

Yes, on one condition: Vimeo AI’s “Generate highlights” builds a highlight reel from a text prompt, and Vimeo’s help centre states that the feature requires an Enterprise plan. Dailies needs no prompt: it picks up to eight passages from each call it records and delivers each as a captioned vertical short.

Does Vimeo remove filler words and silences?

Its text-based editor does: Vimeo describes deleting filler words and cutting silences, and its help article says this applies if the video has spoken English audio. Dailies removes silences, filler words and false starts from its shorts, for calls in French, in English, or in both mixed.

Is Dailies a Vimeo Record alternative for screen recordings?

No. Dailies only makes shorts from the calls it records in Chrome, which you download in Full HD and post yourself; it does not work on a video you upload. For recording a screen message and sharing it by link, Vimeo Record is the right kind of tool.

Your next call already holds your next shorts.

Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
