Dailies vs Async (ex-Podcastle)The Podcastle (now Async) alternative that starts from the calls you already hold
Podcastle is now called Async: the name changed in January 2026, and podcastle.ai leads to async.com. Under either name, it is a recording studio with generative tools around it, and its AI Clips turn a video into vertical clips with subtitles. Dailies comes at shorts from another side: it records the call you hold on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom, in Chrome, and delivers up to eight captioned shorts a few minutes after it ends. The difference is where the conversation happens.

What Async (ex-Podcastle) does
Async, formerly Podcastle, is a chat-based AI creative suite for video and audio production that grew out of a podcast recording and editing tool. Its recording studio runs in Chrome or in its iOS app: it records every participant of an interview locally, with separate audio and video tracks per guest, in up to 4K video and uncompressed 48 kHz WAV audio, for up to ten guests. The host invites guests by a link or by email. Its AI Clips reframe a video to 9:16, detect faces, keep speakers centred and generate subtitles automatically, from a file on your computer, Google Drive or Dropbox. Editing is done by chat: you ask it to remove filler, pauses, repeats and bad takes. Async also generates AI voices, B-roll, music and avatars, and its studio allows screen sharing. Its help centre lists English, Spanish, German, French and Italian for transcription.
Where Dailies and Async (ex-Podcastle) differ
An interview studio, or the call in your calendar
Async records interviews in its own studio: the host sends an invite link or an email, and the guest joins there instead of the usual meeting. We found no feature that records a call held on Google Meet, Teams or Zoom on the pages we read. Dailies records those calls from Chrome (the call tab, your microphone and your webcam), with no bot in the call.
From the recording to the shorts
Async’s AI Clips page names its sources: a file from your computer, Google Drive or Dropbox. How many clips it makes from a video and which caption styles it offers are not stated on the pages we read. Dailies has no file step: its shorts come from the call it recorded, up to eight per call, each with animated captions in one of fifteen styles and, above it, a line that says the question it answers.
Guests who should stay anonymous
An interview guest agreed to appear. A client on a call often would rather not. Dailies has one switch that blurs your guests and disguises their voice in every short, and it can blur or replace the room behind you. We found neither a background blur nor a way to anonymise a guest on the Async pages we read.
What Async does that Dailies does not
Local recording of up to ten guests in up to 4K, editing by chat, clips from any video you upload, and generated voices, B-roll, music and avatars. Dailies does none of that: it only handles the calls it recorded in Chrome, and you download each short in Full HD to post it yourself.
Questions people ask
Is Podcastle now Async?
Yes. Podcastle was renamed Async in January 2026, and podcastle.ai now redirects to async.com. Async is a chat-based AI suite for video and audio production that grew out of that podcast recording and editing tool, and it still includes a recording studio for interviews with guests.
Can Async (Podcastle) record a Zoom, Google Meet or Teams call?
We found no such feature on the Async pages we read. Async records interviews in its own studio, in Chrome or its iOS app, with guests invited by a link or by email. Dailies records the calls you hold in Chrome on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
Does Async make vertical clips with subtitles?
Yes. Its AI Clips reframe a video to 9:16, detect faces so that speakers stay centred, and generate subtitles automatically, from a file on your computer, Google Drive or Dropbox. The number of clips and the caption styles are not stated on the pages we read.
Is Dailies an alternative to Podcastle for a podcast?
No. Dailies is neither a studio nor an editor, and it does not work on a video you upload: it makes shorts from the calls you hold in Chrome on Meet, Teams or Zoom. To record and edit a podcast, a studio such as Async is the right kind of tool.
Your next call already holds your next shorts.
Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
