Dailies vs RestreamThe Restream alternative for people who hold client calls, not live shows
Restream and Dailies both cut vertical, captioned clips by themselves, and both follow whoever speaks. They start from different footage. Restream is a live-streaming service: you broadcast a show from its browser studio to many destinations at once, and its AI makes five clips from each stream. Dailies is a Chrome extension that records the call you hold on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom and delivers up to eight shorts a few minutes after it ends. One clips a show, the other a client call.

What Restream does
Restream is a live-streaming service that broadcasts one live video to more than 30 destinations from a studio in the browser. Guests join Restream Studio with just a link, without an account, from Chrome, Firefox, Arc, Edge or Safari. The studio records during a live stream, or without going live on a paid plan. Its local recordings, in beta on its Professional plan and above, capture individual video and audio tracks from every participant, in up to 4K, on desktop Chrome. Its AI clips scan a video for the moments it rates as most likely to spread, reframe it for vertical platforms, cut between speakers and trim silent moments. Five clips are generated from every stream or upload, with captions added automatically and editable, style presets, and a choice of vertical, square or horizontal orientation. Downloaded clips are in 1080p and can be posted to YouTube Shorts, Facebook Reels, TikTok, LinkedIn and X. Its Clips page lists 52 languages, French included. A virtual background can blur the room or replace it with an image.
Where Dailies and Restream differ
A stream to produce, or a call to hold
Restream’s clips come from a stream or a recording made in Restream Studio, or from a video you upload. For a client conversation, that means inviting the client into the studio by a link, instead of the usual meeting. We found no feature that records a call held on Google Meet, Teams or Zoom on the pages we read. Dailies records those calls where they take place, from Chrome, with no bot in the call.
Your camera on a track of its own
In Restream Studio, individual video and audio tracks per participant belong to local recordings: a beta, available on its Professional plan and above, on desktop Chrome, which does not include participants on mobile for now. Dailies records your webcam and your microphone apart from the call’s picture on every call, which is what lets a short show you full screen.
What gets cut out of a clip
Restream’s clip settings include removing silences; filler-word removal is not mentioned among them. Dailies cuts silences, filler words and false starts from every short. It also has one switch that blurs your guests and disguises their voice. We found no such option on the Restream pages we read.
What Restream does that Dailies does not
Broadcasting live to more than 30 destinations at once, webinars, streaming a video you uploaded, clips from any upload or public link, in vertical, square or horizontal, and posting them to your social accounts. Dailies does none of that: it only handles the calls it recorded in Chrome, and you download each short in Full HD to post it yourself.
Questions people ask
Can Restream record a Zoom, Google Meet or Teams call?
We found no such feature on the Restream pages we read. Restream records what happens in Restream Studio, during a live stream or in its record-only mode, with guests who join by a link. Dailies records the calls you hold in Chrome on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
Does Restream make clips automatically?
Yes. Restream generates five clips from every stream or upload, automatically for Studio or encoder recordings over ten minutes. Its AI reframes the video for vertical platforms, cuts between speakers, trims silent moments and adds captions you can edit. Monthly clip limits depend on the plan.
Can I record in Restream without going live?
Yes, on a paid plan. Restream Studio has a record-only mode, and its local recordings, in beta on its Professional plan and above, capture individual video and audio tracks from every participant on desktop Chrome. The conversation still takes place in the studio, which your guest joins by a link.
Is Dailies a Restream alternative for live streaming?
No. Dailies broadcasts nothing: it makes shorts from the calls you hold in Chrome on Meet, Teams or Zoom. For a live show sent to several platforms at once, a service such as Restream is the right kind of tool.
Your next call already holds your next shorts.
Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
