Dailies vs KapwingThe Kapwing alternative that picks the clips from your calls without being asked
Kapwing is an online video editor for teams, with AI tools around it. Its Clip Maker waits for you to describe the clips you want, in a video you uploaded, linked or recorded in the editor. Dailies does not wait to be asked: it records the call you hold in Chrome on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom, chooses up to eight passages itself and delivers them as captioned vertical shorts a few minutes after the call. The first is a workspace, the second a delivery.

What Kapwing does
Kapwing is an online video editor made for teams, with a full timeline, team workspaces and a set of AI tools. You upload a file, paste a link, or record your screen, camera and audio inside the editor. Its Clip Maker works from a prompt: you describe the clips you want, and it returns clips of 15 seconds to 3 minutes. Speaker Focus takes a video with several speakers, such as a video podcast, a Zoom meeting, a webinar or an online interview, and resizes it to centre whoever is talking. Subtitles come in more than 100 preset styles and templates, with animation, custom fonts and a different style per speaker, and translate into more than 100 languages, French included. Smart Cut detects and removes silences, with a slider for its sensitivity. It also has a B-roll generator, dubbing into more than 40 languages, AI voice overs and blurred backgrounds in clips. Exports reach 4K on its paid plans, and a French version of its website exists.
Where Dailies and Kapwing differ
A prompt to write, or nothing to ask
Kapwing’s Clip Maker starts from your description of the clips you want and returns clips of 15 seconds to 3 minutes. That suits someone who knows what they are looking for in a video. Dailies asks for nothing: after each call it picks up to eight passages itself and puts a line above each short, the question it answers.
A call that arrives as a file
Kapwing’s Speaker Focus accepts Zoom meetings, webinars and online interviews as uploaded videos; we found no integration with a Zoom, Google Meet or Teams account on the pages we read. Its editor can also record your screen, camera and audio. Either way, the recording comes first and the Clip Maker’s prompt after. Dailies records the call tab, your microphone and your webcam in Chrome, and the shorts come without that detour.
Centring a speaker in a meeting picture
Speaker Focus detects talking heads in the video it is given and centres the active speaker. Dailies does not look for you in the meeting’s picture: it records your webcam on a track of its own, and crops your guest’s tile on their face. It also has one switch that blurs your guests and disguises their voice; on the Kapwing pages we read, we found blurred backgrounds in clips but no guest blur or voice change.
What Kapwing does that Dailies does not
Kapwing is a full editor shared by a team: a timeline, any video as input, a B-roll generator, dubbing into more than 40 languages, export in 4K on paid plans. Dailies does not edit a video you upload. It makes shorts from the calls it records, and you download each one in Full HD to post it yourself.
Questions people ask
Can Kapwing record a Zoom, Google Meet or Teams call?
Not through an integration that we found on the pages we read. Kapwing’s editor records your screen, camera and audio, and its Speaker Focus accepts Zoom meetings as uploaded videos. Dailies records the call itself in Chrome: the call tab, your microphone and your webcam.
How does Kapwing’s Clip Maker choose clips?
From a prompt. You describe the clips you want and it returns clips of 15 seconds to 3 minutes, which you can finish in its editor. Dailies picks up to eight passages per call by itself.
Does Kapwing remove silences and filler words?
Silences, yes: its Smart Cut detects and removes them, with a slider for its sensitivity. We could not confirm filler-word removal on the pages we read. Dailies cuts silences, filler words and false starts out of every short.
Does Dailies replace Kapwing?
Not for a team that edits. Dailies does not edit a video you upload: it only makes shorts from the calls it records in Chrome. If several of you work on videos of many kinds, Kapwing is the editor for that. If you want shorts from your own calls without editing, that is what Dailies does.
Your next call already holds your next shorts.
Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
