Dailies

Dailies vs ClipchampThe Clipchamp alternative for people who want shorts from their calls without a timeline

Clipchamp is Microsoft’s video editor: it runs in the browser and on Windows, with templates, autocaptions, a silence remover and recorders for your webcam and your screen. You bring or record the video, then you edit it. Dailies takes the editing off your hands for one kind of video, the call: it records the Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom call you hold in Chrome, picks up to eight passages itself and delivers them as captioned vertical shorts a few minutes later.

What Clipchamp does

Clipchamp is an online video editor by Microsoft, in the browser and on Windows, built around templates and a set of AI helpers for everyday and work videos. It edits the media you upload and has its own recorders: your webcam, in sessions of 30 minutes, your screen, or screen and camera at once. A 9:16 preset turns a widescreen video into a vertical one in a click, and shorts are put together by hand from templates. Autocaptions cover more than 80 languages, with a font, colours, a size and an alignment you can change; the transcript and an SRT file can be downloaded. An AI silence remover finds pauses of more than 3 seconds, and its homepage mentions removing filler words with AI editing. Around these sit an AI voiceover with 400 voices, noise suppression, an image background remover, a stock library and a brand kit. Its website exists in 25 languages, French among them.

Where Dailies and Clipchamp differ

A timeline to work on, or passages already found

In Clipchamp you are the editor: you look for the good passages in your video, cut them on the timeline and dress them from a template. Its AI helpers assist with captions and silences; we found no automatic picking of the moments worth posting on the pages we read. Dailies does that part itself: after each call it picks up to eight passages, cuts silences, filler words and false starts, and puts a line above each short, the question it answers.

Recording yourself, or recording the call

Clipchamp records your webcam, your screen, or both at once. The pages we read describe no recording of a Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom call, and do not say whether screen and camera are kept as separate tracks. Dailies is built for the call: from Chrome it captures the call tab, your microphone and your webcam, the webcam on a track of its own. No bot joins the call.

From widescreen to vertical

Clipchamp’s 9:16 preset turns a widescreen video into a vertical one in a click; the pages we read do not say that it reframes on whoever speaks. Its autocaptions can be styled by font, colour, size and alignment; we found no animated caption styles there. Dailies reframes each short on the person speaking, your webcam or your guest’s tile cropped on their face, and burns in animated captions in one of fifteen styles.

What Clipchamp does that Dailies does not

Clipchamp edits any video you upload, records your screen or your webcam, adds an AI voiceover and stock media, and has a brand kit. Dailies is not an editor: it does not edit a video you upload and records nothing but calls. It makes shorts from those calls, and you download each one in Full HD to post it yourself.

Questions people ask

Can Clipchamp record a Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Google Meet call?

Not that we found. Clipchamp has recorders for your webcam, your screen, and screen and camera together; the pages we read describe no recording of a Teams, Zoom or Meet call. Dailies records those calls itself in Chrome: the call tab, your microphone and your webcam.

Does Clipchamp make shorts automatically?

The pages we read do not say so. They describe a 9:16 preset that turns a widescreen video vertical in a click, templates for shorts, autocaptions and a silence remover, which you use in the editor. We found no automatic picking of passages there. Dailies picks up to eight passages per call and delivers them cut, reframed and captioned.

Does Clipchamp remove silences and filler words?

Yes for silences: its AI silence remover finds pauses of more than 3 seconds. Its homepage also mentions removing filler words with AI editing. Dailies cuts silences, filler words and false starts out of every short without being asked.

Does Clipchamp caption videos in French?

We could not confirm it. Clipchamp states autocaptions in more than 80 languages, but French is not named on the pages we read. Its website does exist in French. Dailies handles calls in French, in English and in both mixed, and its interface is in French.

Does Dailies replace Clipchamp?

Not as an editor. Dailies does not edit a video you upload: it only makes shorts from the calls it records in Chrome. To trim, caption and resize videos of all kinds yourself, Clipchamp is the kind of tool you need. For shorts out of your calls with no editing, that is what Dailies does.

Your next call already holds your next shorts.

Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
