Dailies vs DescriptThe Descript alternative for people who want the shorts, not the editing session
Descript is a video and podcast editor in which you cut by editing the transcript, helped by an AI co-editor. It puts every word of an episode in your hands. Dailies works the other way round: it records the call you hold in Chrome on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom, picks up to eight passages itself and delivers them as captioned vertical shorts a few minutes later. One is a place to edit; the other hands you the result of a call you were going to hold anyway.
Checked against Descript’s own site on October 1, 2026.
Dailies
Choose Dailies if
For people who want shorts from their client calls on Meet, Teams or Zoom without opening an editor.
You have no time to edit and want the shorts cut for you after each call.
Your calls are on Google Meet or Teams, or you would rather not move clients to another room.
You want your guests blurred and their voice disguised in the shorts.
Descript
Choose Descript if

You want to edit the whole episode yourself, word by word.
You record remote guests in Rooms, each on a separate file in up to 4K.
You hold your calls on Zoom with cloud recording and want every view in your editor.
You also want show notes, summaries or dubbing from the same recording.

What Descript does
Descript is a text-based video and podcast editor for Mac, Windows and the web: you edit a recording by editing its transcript, with an AI co-editor called Underlord. It takes the files you upload, has a screen recorder, and has Rooms, its own browser recording studio, where each participant is recorded locally as a separate file in up to 4K. It connects to your Zoom account to import cloud recordings with every view: active speaker, gallery and screen sharing. Create Clips finds the best moments of a recording and lets you choose your favourites. Descript centres the active speaker, keeps the speaker on camera with Automatic Multicam, removes filler words and retakes, and builds captions from the transcript with styles and layouts. It transcribes 25 languages, French included, translates captions into 61 and dubs into 30. Studio Sound, Eye Contact and Green Screen work on the sound, the gaze and the background, and it drafts social posts, show notes and summaries from the recording.
Where Dailies and Descript differ
An editor you work in, or shorts that arrive
Descript proposes clips: Create Clips finds the best moments, you choose your favourites, then you finish them in its editor, with layouts, captions and cuts made in the transcript. That is more control, and more work. Dailies picks the passages, cuts silences, filler words and false starts, reframes on whoever speaks and burns in the captions, so the shorts are ready a few minutes after the call.
Which calls each one can reach
Descript reaches Zoom through a connected account: it states that it imports cloud recordings, not local ones, of calls scheduled, started or hosted in the past 12 months. We found no import of Google Meet or Microsoft Teams calls on the pages we read. Dailies records all three itself, in Chrome, Zoom in its web client.
Rooms, or the call tool your client already uses
Rooms is Descript’s own conferencing tool and recorder: each participant is recorded locally, as a separate file, in up to 4K. To use it, the conversation has to take place in Rooms. Dailies records the call where your client expects it, on Meet, Teams or Zoom: your webcam on a track of its own, your guest taken from the call’s picture, their tile cropped on their face. It also has one switch that blurs your guests and disguises their voice; we found no such option on the Descript pages we read.
What Descript does that Dailies does not
Descript edits whole episodes, audio or video, from any file. It dubs, translates captions, removes a background, and drafts show notes and summaries. Dailies does not edit a video you upload and writes no notes or summaries: it makes shorts from the calls it records, downloaded in Full HD for you to post.
Questions people ask
Can Descript record a Google Meet, Teams or Zoom call?
Its pages describe no recording of such a call by Descript itself. It records in Rooms, its own browser studio, and with a screen recorder. For Zoom, it connects to your account and imports cloud recordings of calls from the past 12 months; Descript states that local recordings are not imported. We found no import of Google Meet or Teams calls on the pages we read. Dailies records all three itself, in Chrome.
Does Descript make clips automatically?
Yes. Create Clips finds the best moments of a recording and lets you choose your favourites; you then finish them in its editor, with layouts, captions and a centred active speaker. Dailies picks up to eight passages per call and delivers them already cut, reframed and captioned.
Does Descript work in French?
Yes for transcription: it covers 25 languages, French included, and translates captions into 61. The pages of its site we read are in English only. Dailies handles calls in French, in English and in both mixed, and its extension’s interface is in French.
Does Dailies replace Descript?
Not as an editor. Dailies does not edit a video you upload and writes no notes or summaries: it makes shorts from the calls it records in Chrome. If you produce a podcast or edit long videos, that is Descript’s job. If you want shorts out of client calls without an editing session, that is the job Dailies does.
Your next call already holds your next shorts.
Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
