Dailies

Dailies vs CapCutThe CapCut alternative for people who have calls to share and no time to edit

CapCut is an editor: photo and video, on mobile, desktop and the web, with a very large toolset and AI helpers, one of which turns a long video into shorts. You bring the video and you steer the edit. Dailies does one thing and does the cutting itself: it records the call you hold in Chrome on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom, then delivers up to eight captioned vertical shorts a few minutes after it ends. The first suits people who like to edit, the second people who would rather not.

What CapCut does

CapCut is a general-purpose photo and video editor for mobile, desktop and the web, with a very large set of effects, templates and stock. Among its AI tools, a long-video-to-shorts clip maker takes a video from your device, its cloud storage, Google Drive or Dropbox: you choose clip durations and time ranges, it analyses the video and edits it into several short clips, and you can share them directly to TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. Auto Reframe resizes a video to other aspect ratios with AI. On the web, auto captions cover more than 20 languages, French included, with pre-designed styles and templates and a font, colour, size and animation you can change. A filler word remover detects and deletes pauses, ums and ahs. It also has a voice changer with a collection of voice effects, a video background remover and noise reduction. Its website exists in French.

Where Dailies and CapCut differ

A toolset to drive, or shorts already cut

CapCut hands you the tools. In its long-video-to-shorts tool you set the clips’ durations and the time ranges to work on, and its AI clip maker then cuts several shorts; CapCut also has tools for captions, reframing and filler word removal. Dailies does those steps in one pass and by itself: it picks up to eight passages, removes silences, filler words and false starts, reframes on whoever speaks and burns in the captions.

Who records the call

CapCut’s shorts tool starts from a video uploaded from your device, its cloud storage, Google Drive or Dropbox. On the pages we read, we found no call recording and no import from Zoom, Google Meet or Teams, so a call would be recorded with something else and uploaded. Dailies records the call itself in Chrome: the call tab, your microphone and your webcam, while you talk.

Who the short shows

Auto Reframe resizes a video to another aspect ratio with AI; the pages we read do not say whether it follows the active speaker, or how it treats two people on a call. Dailies records your webcam on a track of its own and crops your guest’s tile on their face, so each short shows whoever speaks. For guests, CapCut has a voice changer with a collection of voice effects; we found no automatic blur of a call’s guests on its pages. Dailies has one switch that blurs your guests and disguises their voice.

What CapCut does that Dailies does not

CapCut edits any photo or video, on a phone, a computer or the web, with effects, templates and stock, and shares clips directly to TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. Dailies is not an editor: it does not edit a video you upload and does not post for you. It makes shorts from the calls it records, and you download each one in Full HD.

Questions people ask

Can CapCut turn a long video into shorts automatically?

Partly. In its long-video-to-shorts tool you choose the clips’ durations and the time ranges to work on, then its AI clip maker analyses the video and edits it into several short clips. Dailies picks up to eight passages per call itself and delivers them as captioned vertical shorts.

Can CapCut record a Zoom, Google Meet or Teams call?

Not that we found: the CapCut pages we read describe no call recording and no import from Zoom, Google Meet or Teams. Its shorts tool starts from a video uploaded from your device, its cloud storage, Google Drive or Dropbox. CapCut differs between its mobile, desktop and web versions, so check the one you use. Dailies records the call itself in Chrome.

Does CapCut caption videos in French?

Yes. On CapCut Web, auto captions cover more than 20 languages, French included, with caption styles and templates you can customise, and its website exists in French. Dailies handles calls in French, in English and in both mixed, and burns in animated captions in one of fifteen styles.

Is Dailies a CapCut alternative for editing videos?

No. Dailies is not an editor and does not edit a video you upload: it only makes shorts from the calls it records in Chrome. To edit by hand, with effects and templates, CapCut is the kind of tool you need.

Your next call already holds your next shorts.

Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
