Dailies

Freelancers: find clients with the calls you already hold

Dailies is a Chrome extension that records your video calls with clients and cuts captioned vertical shorts from them, ready to post. As a freelancer you are the one who does the work, the one who sells it and the one who ought to be promoting it: video always comes after the project in hand. Yet you explain your trade several times a week, to clients who ask you exactly the questions your next clients will ask.

Which calls in a freelancer’s week make good shorts?

Look at your calendar: between two stretches of production there are always a few calls. Dailies reads each one from start to finish and keeps up to eight passages of 12 to 90 seconds that stand on their own, with nothing for you to prepare.

  1. The discovery call

A prospect asks how you would approach their project. You lay out your method in forty seconds: it is the most convincing presentation of your services you will ever give.

  2. The progress update

You explain to a client why you made one choice and not another. That reasoning shows your trade far better than a list of skills on a profile.

  3. Scoping a project

You say what is realistic for the budget and what is not. That candour attracts the clients you want to work with, and sends the others away before the quote.

  4. The project review

What worked, what you would do differently, what the client gained. A case study told out loud, without a line to write.

Why start from your calls rather than a video shoot?

  • You do not have a spare hour

An hour you cannot bill is an hour lost, and filming takes several. Here you hold your calls; the shorts are ready a few minutes after you hang up, with silences, hesitations and false starts cut out.

  • They show your real work

With a client you are not selling yourself: you are solving their problem out loud. That is what a prospect wants to see before writing to you, and what an “about” page never shows.

  • Your clients are not put on show

A short shows whoever is speaking. One switch blurs your clients and disguises their voice, and you choose short by short what you download. Nothing is posted for you.

What kind of shorts can a freelancer post?

These are the kinds of titles a freelancer’s shorts carry. They are the answers you already give on calls, to clients who look like the ones you are after.

  • Fixed price or day rate?

  • Why I turn projects down

  • A good brief in three questions

  • Saying your price without apologising

  • What I ask before I quote

  • The client who wants it all yesterday

How does Dailies work?

  1. Record the call you were going to have anyway.

Open your call in Chrome and press record. Dailies captures the call, your microphone and your webcam.

  2. It finds the moments worth posting.

Dailies reads the whole call and keeps up to eight passages that stand on their own. Silences, filler and false starts are cut out.

  3. Reframed for a phone, on whoever is speaking.

Each short fills the vertical frame with your webcam, or with your guest when they speak. One switch blurs your guests.

  4. Captioned in fifteen flavors.

Pick a look once and every short follows: font, colours, motion, even the backdrop behind you.

  5. One call, up to eight shorts.

Watch them a few minutes after you hang up, download the ones you like in Full HD, and post them on LinkedIn, TikTok, Reels or Shorts.

What about the confidentiality of your calls?

What I say on a call belongs to my clients: can I make shorts from it?

What your client paid for is an answer to their own situation, and that is not what Dailies looks for. It rates every passage on what it reveals that is private or confidential, turns down those that reveal something and keeps the ones that make sense outside the call: a piece of advice, a method, an opinion. That is a model’s judgement, not a guarantee. So nothing is posted for you: you watch every short, and when one does not suit you, you say why and Dailies leaves that subject out of your next calls. Your contract with your client remains the rule.

Nobody must know I work with this client: what do the shorts show?

One switch blurs your guests and disguises their voice in all your shorts; on a new account, it is on from the start. A short mostly shows you, explaining. That leaves what is said: if a passage names your client or describes their company, the blur changes nothing. That is why Dailies turns down the passages that reveal something private, and why you have the last word: a short Dailies proposes is not a short that is posted.

Do my calls stay stored on a server?

Your calls do reach a server, since Dailies has to receive them to cut your shorts from them, but the original files do not stay there: the sound and picture of a processed call are deleted 10 days after processing, 15 days at the latest. What stays is what your shorts are made of, that is, the only pieces of video they use, and the call’s transcript, until you delete the call, which you can do at any time. You choose which calls you record, and your recordings train no model.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make videos to find clients as a freelancer?

By starting from what you already say. Dailies records the calls you hold in Chrome on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom, spots the passages that stand on their own and makes up to eight captioned vertical shorts per call from them. You have nothing to film and nothing to edit.

Do I have to tell my client that the call is being recorded?

Yes: telling your client is up to you, before you begin. In the shorts Dailies cuts, one switch blurs your guests and disguises their voice, and you then decide what you download and post.

I don’t like seeing myself on video: is Dailies for me?

That is what Dailies is made for. You do not film yourself: you hold a call, as you do every day, with your mind on your client and not on a camera. Dailies cuts the silences, the hesitations and the false starts, and you post only the shorts you like.

Where should a freelancer post these shorts?

You download each Dailies short in Full HD and post it yourself, on LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts. Dailies posts nothing for you.

Which languages does Dailies handle?

Dailies handles calls in French and in English. Every short arrives captioned in one of fifteen styles; you pick yours once and for all.

Your next client call is already planned.

Add Dailies to Chrome, record it, and see what comes out a few minutes after you hang up. You have nothing to film.
