Dailies

Dailies vs ColossyanThe Colossyan alternative for social shorts made from your own calls, not training videos

Colossyan and Dailies both make video without a shoot, for two different audiences. Colossyan is built for workplace training: it turns documents, slides and scripts into videos and courses presented by an AI avatar, for employees, partners and customers. Dailies is built for one person’s feed: it records the calls you hold in Chrome and cuts captioned vertical shorts from what you said. If you wonder whether to make your videos with an avatar or from your calls, the short answer is this: an avatar needs a script and no call, Dailies needs calls and no script.

What Colossyan does

Colossyan is an AI video and course platform for workplace training. It generates a video from text, a document (PDF, PPT, URL) or a prompt, presented by one of more than 300 stock avatars or by a custom avatar, with narration in over 100 languages, French included. An Instant Avatar is created from a photo or a short video shot with a phone or a camera, 20 seconds to five minutes long for the video-based kind; it keeps your original background, and a voice recording adds a clone of your voice. A Studio Avatar, on its Enterprise plan, is made from one to five minutes of footage. Colossyan states that a custom avatar can only be made of someone who has given explicit consent. It adds subtitles in one click, with settings for font, size, colour and position, translates and dubs videos, and has a built-in screen recorder, interactive videos with quizzes and branching, brand kits and an API. Videos are published to an LMS with SCORM, exported as MP4 or shared by link.

Where Dailies and Colossyan differ

A course to produce, or a feed to fill

Colossyan’s pages speak to people who train others at work: existing documents and slides become a video or a SCORM course, with quizzes, branching and analytics. Dailies speaks to people who post under their own name: a client call becomes up to eight vertical 9:16 shorts for LinkedIn, TikTok, Reels or Shorts. We found no vertical format and no clip selection on the Colossyan features pages we read, which is why the table says “not stated” on those rows.

Written first, or said first

A Colossyan video begins with a document or a script, which an avatar then narrates. That is the right order for material that has to be the same for everyone who watches it. A Dailies short begins with speech: what you answered to a client, cut clean of its silences, filler words and false starts. You write nothing, and you need to have held the call.

An avatar of you, or your webcam

Colossyan can make an avatar of you from a photo or a short video, with a clone of your voice, and states that this requires the explicit consent of the person shown. That avatar then presents any script. Dailies records your webcam during the call, on a track of its own, and shows it full screen when you speak, or your guest’s tile when they do. No bot joins the call.

What Colossyan does that Dailies does not

Videos and courses from a PDF, a slide deck or a URL. Narration in over 100 languages, translation and dubbing. Interactive videos, SCORM export to an LMS, a screen recorder, brand kits and an API. Dailies covers none of these needs: it knows only the calls it recorded in Chrome, and hands you shorts in Full HD that you post yourself.

Questions people ask

Can Colossyan make short vertical videos for social networks?

We found no vertical or 9:16 format on the Colossyan features pages we read, and no tool that cuts clips out of a recording. Its pages describe training videos and courses, published to an LMS with SCORM, exported as MP4 or shared by link. That is an absence on those pages, not a statement by Colossyan. Dailies delivers vertical 9:16 shorts with captions burned in.

How do I create a custom avatar in Colossyan?

From a photo or a short video. An Instant Avatar is made from a single image or from 20 seconds to five minutes of video shot with a phone or a camera, and is generated in under a minute with your original background; a voice recording adds a clone of your voice. A Studio Avatar, on its Enterprise plan, uses one to five minutes of footage. Colossyan states that an avatar can only be made of a person who has given explicit consent.

Does Colossyan record meetings or calls?

We found no recording of Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom calls on the pages we read. Colossyan has a built-in screen recorder, which adds screen recordings to a video. Dailies records those calls from a Chrome extension: the call tab, your microphone and your webcam.

Is Dailies a Colossyan alternative for training videos?

No. Dailies takes no document or script, has no avatar, and exports nothing to an LMS. It makes shorts from the calls you hold in Chrome. For workplace training, Colossyan is the right kind of tool; the two do different jobs.

Your next call already holds your next shorts.

Add Dailies to Chrome, record the call you were going to have anyway, and watch its shorts a few minutes after you hang up.
